  • Guitar Day 2019!

    A full day devoted to Guitar with workshops in classical, jazz, Brazilian styles, sight-reading, open stage, CGS Ensemble performance, luthier demo and plenty of guitar comradery.

    Guitar Day 2019 is an event sponsored by the Connecticut Guitar Society, the activities are open to the general public and guitar enthusiasts. Join us for a complete day of workshops and a performance by fingerstyle artist Joe Carter. Guitar Day 2019, Saturday, October 19, 2019 beginning at 9:00 AM at the Asylum Hill Congregational Church in Hartford, CT. Tickets for the full day, are $45 for non-members, $40 for CGS Members and $20 Students. The Guitar Day ticket includes the evening performance by the Joe Carter Intercontinental Duo.  Please pre-register by calling 860.249.1132 or emailing: info@ctguitar.org.

    Guitarist and composer Randy Spaulding performs instrumental and vocal music.  He graduated from The Boston Conservatory in 1977, and has been teaching guitar since 1971 both privately and for music schools in the area. He is an active member in the Connecticut Guitar Society, and participates in their CGS guitar ensemble. He also performs locally with the Grove Street Trio, a classical guitar ensemble that plays Baroque and Renissance, Spanish, Latin American and popular music in the classical tradition.

    • Performer: performed for over 40 years with various bands throughout the Northeast playing multiple styles of music from Rock and Pop to Jazz and Classical. (Current: Blue Skies Big Band, Dixieland Stomp, The Downbeats, CT Guitar Society Ensemble, Estabrook; Previous: The Elastic Band, Showcase, Truth, Just Us, and Time Machine.)
    • Music Lecturer/Writer: Presented multiple music/guitar seminars and wrote numerous guitar technique manuscripts.
    • Composer, Songwriter and Arranger: have written numerous compositions; have recorded and produced multiple guitar solo albums.
    • Teacher: taught private guitar lessons for 10+ years
    • New England ATAM Music Festival Guitar Judge: participated in judging competitions for 13+ years.

    A life-long professional woodworker who began making and repairing classical guitars in 1998. . His work is based in Eastford, Connecticut since 2004. Joining Richard will be - Froc Filipetti, a well respected local guitarist and luthier.

    Guitarist Joe Carter, Director of the Sacred Heart University Academic Music Programs, has studied Baden’s style and music extensively, met Baden in Rio in the 1990s and upon his death, was asked to contribute to an article in Americas magazine, entitled, Bidding Baden Good-bye by Mark Holston.  Joe Carter also taught and was the Chair of the Guitar Department at the Hartford Conservatory for 20 plus years.
